Even Napoleon was impressed by the Port of Den Helder, where he built the largest naval base with our own yard! Later this complex was a shipyard for the Royal Navy. And now? Now this beautiful piece of Den Helder is a special place for a day out. Willemsoord is buzzing like never before. Come and see for yourself and step into the submarine ‘Tuna’ for example.<\/p>\n

The museum harbor for lovers of ships<\/h2>\n

The heart of Willemsoord is the Museumhaven<\/em>. On the quay are beautifully restored ships with the lightship Texel as eye-catcher, which was once a beacon in the sea. With a number of ships you can make a cruise yourself. The two museums on the complex, the National Rescue Museum Dorus Rijkers<\/a> and the Naval Museum<\/a> give a glimpse into the past and present of the Navy and the rescue industry. For art works and changing exhibitions, there is the Kunstuitleen<\/em>. You can also live in the children’s play paradise, watch a game in the casino or lean back for a movie in the Kinepolis cinema.<\/p>\n

Restaurants at Willemsoord<\/h3>\n

Enjoy a cup of coffee at Barista Caf\u00e9 NJoy, a cozy get-together at the harbor caf\u00e9 Horeca ‘t Zwaantje or a stylish dinner at Kade 60. Willemsoord’s restaurants make the day complete with delicious food and drinks! Restaurant Stoom is worth a visit in combination with a night out in the Kampanje theater<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Willemsoord is easily accessible by car, camper, train or boat. There is ample free parking, an extremely modern marina and camper pitches. The railway station is a ten minute walk away. In short: Willemsoord has enough to offer for a fun day out! A day out on the largest naval base in the Netherlands – Willemsoord in Den Helder lends itself well to a family day, children’s party and school trip.
